FAMU Black History Month Event Will Feature Alumnus Roy Wood Jr. on February 10

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida A&M University (FAMU) announces a Black History Month Fireside Conversation with alumnus and television host Roy Wood Jr., on Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium. The event will be moderated by FAMU Interim President Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D., and Vice President of Marketing and Communications Alonda Thomas, Ph.D.

“We are thrilled and deeply appreciative to welcome Roy Wood Jr. back to his alma mater for this one-night-only event,” said Beard. “This is an extraordinary opportunity to experience his spirited and insightful take on the world—especially at a time when we all could use a moment to reunite, reflect, and rediscover joy. His unique perspective as a journalist, political commentator, and comedian will undoubtedly resonate with our students, alumni, and the entire community.”

Wood Jr. recently released a new comedy special on Hulu titled, Lonely Flowers, and he is the host of CNN’s Have I Got News for You, an American adaptation of the longest-running UK comedy series, which premiered in September 2024.

“Every time I return to the highest of seven hills it is an honor. This time is no different,” said Wood Jr. “I can’t wait to get on stage and run my mouth and discuss the things that make us laugh, the things that make us angry, and the things that make us human. I also have a few parking tickets from my undergrad days that I need to finally take care of.”

Wood Jr. is an Emmy-nominated documentary producer, and WGA nominated writer. He served for 8 years as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s Emmy-winning The Daily Show (2015-2023). In 2023, Wood Jr. guest hosted The Daily Show and headlined the White House Correspondents' Dinner to its highest ratings since 2017.

Wood Jr. recently appeared alongside Andre Holland, Dewanda Wise & Nicole Beharie in “Love, Brooklyn” which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. He will also appear alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming comedy “Outcome” and recently partnered with Crown Publishing to pen a memoir, “The Man of Many Fathers,” which will be released in 2025.

The FAMU Black History Month Fireside Conversation with Roy Wood Jr. is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. It will also be livestreamed on the FAMU YouTube channel, @FAMUTube1887.
